Twitter users launch petition for Basque Country's Trending Topic list

Social networking site Twitter is available in Basque since last month after Basque users of the site took on the mammoth task of translating it themselves. Now, a list of the topics that are being talked about most on Twitter in the Basque Country is the objective of a new on-line initiative undertaken by several users of the social networking site.

"Twitter implemented Local Trending Topics years ago. We Basque citizens from the seven provinces would also like to have our own TT list. Consequently, we expect our topics will spread efficiently and will generate greater impact as well", the online petition explains.

Those who want Twitter to offer the list of the trending topics in the Basque Country need to sign the on-line petition, which expects to become viral soon in order to raise Twitter's attention.

Of all the minority languages used on Twitter, Euskera or Basque is the second most popular after Haitian Creole, with more than 13,000 users tweeting in Basque.
