ETA suspect arrested in Gipuzkoa

Spanish police have arrested a suspected member of Basque armed group ETA who is alleged to have taken part in the bombing of a local television station in 2008, state radio said on Saturday.

Ibai Beobide was arrested while riding a bicycle through a roadblock near the town of Asteasu in the northern Basque country, RNE radio station added. He was found to be carrying a pistol and false papers.

Beobide is suspected of helping to plant a car bomb with 100 kg (220 lb) of explosives which caused severe damage to the headquarters of television broadcaster EITB in Bilbao on December 31, 2008.

Police and Interior Ministry officials were not available for comment on the reported arrest.
