Petition for Basque language on Twitter

Twitter available in the Basque language, is the objective of a new on-line initiative undertaken by one young user of the social network site, which is so far available in Spanish, French, German and Italian, as well as English.

Those who want Twitter to offer their contents in the Basque language need to sign an on-line petition, which already includes the signature of some well-known Basques such as Patxi López, former Liverpool footballer Xabi Alonso and EA''s Martín Aranburu.

As well as hundreds of Twitter users, the town council of Donosita-San Sebastian, the Basque publication Argia and Bai Euskarari have also signed the petition.

On Monday, the hashtag #twittereuskaraz was proving one of the most popular topics on Twitter.
